about

we proudly present 'subversive to care', a friends & family AAPI charity benefit compilation from paul is dead records. with the onset of racial tensions and violent hate crimes toward the AAPI community happening at an alarming rate, we felt there was a sense of urgency to put our heads together and call upon the collective to raise awareness and help for those who are in need. thus the idea for this compilation was born.

the title 'subversive to care' is based on a conversation i had a few weeks ago about the unfortunate lack of compassion and empathy which is so common these days; how the initial ethos of subculture was to rebel against the conservative and oppressive norms of society, whereas these days what is truly subversive is to care for your fellow human and be a genuinely compassionate and altruistic person.

'subversive to care' is a bandcamp.com exclusive and eclectic compilation of more than fifty artists who are close friends and family members of our label and we would like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest sense of gratitude and humility to each and every one of them for contributing their art to this cause.

with love, from us to you all.

XOM,

100% of the proceeds from downloads will be split between these three charities :

The National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum

www.NAPAWF.org

From the grassroots to the halls of power, we work to build a movement for social, political, and structural change for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women and girls. Our policy platform, Still Fierce, Still Fighting: A Reproductive Justice Agenda for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, describes in detail the issues on which we work, and is directly informed by the experiences of our grassroots members and our families and communities.

Asian Mental Health Collective

www.ASIANMHC.org

With the rapid development of and focus on personal well-being in individualistic societies, people are now more aware of the detrimental effects of poor mental health and mental illnesses than ever before. However, as members of the Asian Diaspora, there are often strong cultural underpinnings related to our mental health experiences that go unaddressed. Mental health issues do not exist in individuals only, and this is especially true for those who come from cultures that value collectivism. Experiences shaped by cultural ideals that value face, achievement, and filial piety are interwoven in the fabric of our understanding of the world. Intertwined with generations of exposure to trauma, these ideals, while not inherently unhealthy, are often expressed in ways that create dissonance for the children of the diaspora who live in increasingly globalized societies. It is apparent that there is a generational and cultural rift in many Asian families, with mental health woven through both overt confrontations and unspoken grievances as a result.

AMHC hopes to help bridge those divides.

We do not need, or want, to do away with centuries of beloved culture and tradition for the sake of mental health. We at AMHC believe in integrating our shared backgrounds with the progressive ideals of emotional well-being and mental health - expressing collectivist ideals while respecting the agency of the individual. It all begins with understanding. Through projects such as our Facebook group, resource library, video web-series, and meetup groups, we hope to not only provide mental health support, but also facilitate the difficult conversations we need to have to move forward together.

The Tibet Fund

www.TIBETFUND.org

Covid-19 is tearing across India right now, with the health system unable to cope.

Tibetan communities in India and Nepal are reporting alarming daily increase in new infections and fatalities. With the crisis continuing to worsen, Tibetan refugee communities have begun facing a life-or-death situation. Total known cases in Tibetan communities in India has increased to 3377 with 83 deaths.

The Tibet Fund has so far pledged over $130,000 to procure essential medical devices and supplies, including oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, ventilators, heart monitor machines, nebulizer machines, oxygen masks, contactless thermometers, inverters, safety goggles and PPE kits for treatment and further prevention of Covid-19 in Tibetan refugee communities in India.

So far, we have raised $64,012 and we sincerely thank you for your generosity. We need your continued support and donations to strengthen our Covid-19 Response Program and save the lives of Tibetan refugees.

The Tibet Fund’s primary mission is to preserve the distinct cultural and national identity of the Tibetan people. Our aim is to promote self-reliance and help sustain the cohesiveness of the exile Tibetan community.
As the primary funding organization, we have worked closely with the Central Tibetan Administration in advancing education, refugee rehabilitation, religious and cultural preservation, and community development for more than 140,000 Tibetan refugees living in India, Nepal and Bhutan.

In Tibet, our support is directed to orphanages, eye care and other health programs and educational projects that aid impoverished and marginalized Tibetans.
